O-Hx secures Organon intent

Organon Intent

Organic Heat Exchangers (O-Hx) has secured a letter of intent from Organon Pharma (UK) to demonstrate the benefits of its patented EnergiVault® system, a revolutionary cold thermal energy storage solution, at Organon’s manufacturing site in Cramlington, UK.

This agreement marks an important step towards evaluating the system’s potential for wider application.

During a three-month trial period, O-Hx and Organon will collaborate to install an EnergiVault® demonstration system within Organon’s chilled water infrastructure. This initiative will verify how EnergiVault® can enhance chiller efficiency during winter and transitional seasons, improve thermal capacity and resilience during summer peak demands, and better integrate renewable energy assets into the site’s operations.

A successful outcome will enable O-Hx and Organon to work together to design a tailored commercial solution, potentially involving multiple EnergiVault® units, to deliver lasting energy efficiency and sustainability benefits for the Cramlington facility.

Geoff Barker, Product Director at O-Hx, said: “We’re excited to bring this project to fruition with Organon. Whilst the EnergiVault technology is sector agnostic, it is particularly well suited to the demands of pharmaceutical and healthcare applications on a global scale.”

Paul Lunn, Utilities lead at Organon said: “The O-Hx EnergiVault system has the potential to work alongside our existing refrigeration systems and efficiently manage part load chillers and respond to peak loading situations without significant energy consumption. The system will allow us to effectively store energy from renewable sources such as the existing on-site wind turbines and future solar PV and overall adding system resilience. We are excited to see how the technology can reduce energy and carbon costs and help us on our journey to Net Zero.”

Organic Heat Exchangers is revolutionising the approach to AI-driven industrial cooling, providing global access to cool energy storage. It provides dynamic cooling technology for industrial refrigeration through its trademarked EnergiVault® technology.

The team is comprised of industry-leading engineering and refrigeration experts, including founder and Executive Chairman Bob Long, Fellow of the Institute of Refrigeration; Geoff Barker, Product Director, Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer; Dr David Kane, Software Director; and David Grundy, Finance and Commercial Director.

Organic Heat Exchangers and EnergiVault® is being supported by the specialist environmental incubator and accelerator 350 PPM.

About 350 PPM

350 PPM is on a mission to reduce the amount of CO₂ in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million and reduce CO₂e (equivalent greenhouse gases) to similar levels. It operates as a central legal entity whose purpose is incubating and accelerating breakthrough environmental businesses, participating directly in the development of client companies to support success. As a result, the companies selected for its portfolio are those that can make the biggest impact on reducing the level of CO₂ per USD invested.
